The Railway Museum
is situated at the north-west end of Nairobi station and can be seen from
the Uhuru Highway where it crosses the main line. The museum was established
in 1971 by the then East African Railways and Harbours Corporation to preserve
and display relics and records of the railways of East Africa from their inception
to the present day. In addition to the collection of steam locomotives and
rolling stock, there is a large display of smaller exhibits and models.
and the renowned
National Museum
where there are spellbinding displays of early
man, tribal regalia and the flora and fauna of Kenya.
A visit to the
adjacent snake park is also included.
The snake park next to the museum has about a score of reptiles including
the two deadliest snakes in Africa - black mamba and the puff adder. The park
also houses the famous nile crocodile and some stunning fishes from the great
lakes - Tanganyika, Victoria and Nyasa.
The tour returns to the city centre in time for lunch.
